Day 9 Church Streeton to Nantwich 80 Km

Arrived a little earlier today than normal; around 3;45 pm which is good. at our destination. One of the team riders had a flat tyre and we changed the tyre, and then it immediately  it went flat  again with another puncture as the tyre had two sharp bits of metal in the tyre that got  thru to the tube.

Took a while to fix, so  then  we  went into Peloton mode for last 25km into Nantwich, which was fun to catch the other up.

Below is the Hotel we are staying in at Nantwich . Built in 1585.  I am on the first floor and the floors slope around a little, so like walking a little drunk, but great staff and  rooms have everything we need. Especially a good shower and comfortable bed.

Our accommodation in Nantwich  is an old Tudor building

My shower took 8 minutes to warm up but they warn you about this as it's a heritage listed building and must be difficult to plumb and  they ask for for  forgiveness which is easy.

Above is on the wall in a relatively modern refurbished bathroom. Hotel makes up for it with great character charm, and great management. I love it.

On of the hotel  team lifted our bike up to the first floor for storage, which we all were very  grateful for.

Listening to the weather forecast on the TV and the rain is coming. Can see  also on my weather app "windy" as well. Hopefully won't be too cold that all I hope. Nick from  our team lives in Scotland and where they live they have had 7 days of snow in the last week !. That last happened in around 1970 at this time of year, so weather is a bit odd at the moment. Longest day  is  virtually on when we arrive near the top of Scotland (23 June) so could be light till midnight ?.

Definitely making progress north now and we are Stoke on Trent and Birmingham so definitely moving north.

Had dinner tonight with Alan Little who owns cycle Britian. Alan came to NZ in the summer and did the TA so we had lots to talk about. He talked about possibly doing the tour Divide next year which my friend Martin Grethe is doing again this year literally on the plane over s we speak. Martin  did in 2022 as well . This a ride that goes thru US from Canada down to the Mexican border and cri-crosses the Rockies. 4500km of punishment. We actually pass by Alans home today, so are stopping for lunch at his house and then he cycling with us up to Wigan.

Will add to this blog for today after dinner. I am HUNGRY !

The route we did  today -had much less Km climbing than we have done, However we are finding that the software that predicts our daily ascents is consistently way short of what we actually do. As much as 200 or 300 m short  of ascents we actually do, which is a lot. For those who don't know about ascents. Its about Metre climbed and Kaiti hill for example, is 130m of ascent. So we are two and possibly 3 Kaiti hills short in predictions of what we actually do each day. That's quite a lot. makes for us old ones to chat about !

The route we traveled on day 9

Our Briefing across the road from our accommodation in Church Streeton

The briefing Board for the day

Riding out of Church Streeton. Interestingly the main economic driver for the area is tourism , due to visitors coming to the village to do local country walks. Walking is big in the UK

Who's that old guy ! oh that me. Always waving and saying hello to whoever he                                                                                             passes
My seat needs tightening as it won't hold up up as high as I would like.

Old mansions and castles just abound on our trip. Just spectacular.

This is next door to castle above and is the entrance to a local church.

You forget that the Miltary has a much bigger presence in Europe and UK. This an RAF Airbase.
Military spending in Uk has fallen and so has the capability of its  the military. A very live issue in Europe obviously  with the war in Ukraine happening. Oh man we are so silly but I don't have the answer as history is very evident in this part of the world.

Passing thru another village on the Journey. The come and pass very quickly

Another thatched roofed building. lovely

This is lining up for a cafe visit. All wrapped up for the cold.

As we think about the rain, I have looked at over covers for my feet.
To keep them warm, as wet feet and cold are not fun, and a little dangerous for your feet health if very cold.
Leads to foot neuropathy and nerve  problems which are can become a chronic condition, which is  common in cyclists, especially older ones with circulation problems .

Arn't they mad !!!!!! 😀
